On March 17th the scouts of Troop 78 collected over 3000 pieces of donated food items for the food bank at the Once Around Shop in Eaton. Scouts from both Troop 78 and Cub Scouts from Pack 78 walked Eaton collecting the donation bags that were distributed the week before. The scouts would like to thank all those who kindly donated to help the needy in our county.
Troop 78 spent the weekend of March 31 camping at Sycamore State Park near Trotwood. The boys took a 4 mile hike (in the pouring down rain) and practiced cooking skills during the camp-out. They enjoyed delicious meals prepared in dutch ovens and snacks around the campfire.
Sunday April 15 was a special day for Troop 78 as another scout was presented with Scouting's highest rank. Jesse Keller, son of Terry and Vickie Keller, received his Eagle Scout rank in front of 100 of family and fellow scouts. Jesse has been in Scouting since age 7 and looks forward to many more years of rewarding service. National statistics show that only 1% of scouts ever attain this high achievement.
The weekend of April 20 the scouts participated in the Between Two Forts Spring Camporee sponsored by the Darke and Preble Scout districts. Held at the Darke County Fish & Game Club, scouts had the opportunity to participate in many different sessions aimed at helping them to earn merit badges. Some of the badges included: Electronics, Cooking, Emergency Preparedness, Fire Safety, Fingerprinting, Camping, Radio Communication, Medicine, Mammal Studies, and Space Exploration. They also enjoyed Movie Night on both Friday and Saturday nights, special flag ceremonies and a dutch oven cook-off competition.
