LWA ISSUES VOLUNTARY BAN ON LAWN SPRINKLING
Effective immediately, the Lakengren Water Authority Board of Trustees (BOT) has issued a voluntary water use ban on yard sprinkling. This ban is due to the lack of rain, which in the long term depletes water levels in our production wells.
Currently (as of June 14) well water levels are safe; however, data indicates there is a daily drop in those levels due to increased usage and a lack of rain. In order to maintain safe levels in the production wells, water production and usage has to be decreased. Daily usage numbers are up 20 to 30 percent on a daily basis during this dry period.
Many other communities have issued these bans due to dry conditions and have made them mandatory, even to the point of turning off water at the meter for those who do not comply. At this point the LWA is requesting that each member of the Lakengren community help us get through this tough time voluntarily.
If the LWA BOT decides to make this ban mandatory, you will be notified immediately.
The LWA BOT and its water staff believe the best way to reduce daily usage and production is to request that lawn watering be restricted. Please do all you can to conserve water and protect our water supply.
