OHIO LAKE COMMUNITIES ASSOCIATION
The spring meeting of the OLCA is being held at the Hide-A-Way lake community this Wednesday and Thursday. Our Lake Manager, Kevin Thorpe, and some LPOA Board members will be in attendance.
Margaret and I will also attend which will mark my 20th year as a LPOA board member which originated at Hide-A-Way. We believe that we have been to all of the lakes who are members and were kept attune to what is happening.
Lakengren will be the host of the fall meeting of the OLCA this September. We were the hosts five years ago.
DRAGON U9 BASEBALL
The Lakengren Dragons will play the Englewood Thunderbirds on Thursday, May 24th at 6:00 PM on our field.
They will also be host to the Beavercreek Sox on Thursday, May 31 at 6:30 PM.
VOLLEYBALL COURTS
The second volleyball court is just about completed. There was been much activity there recently.
BOB VARNEY SWIM LEASONS FOR KIDS
There will again be free swimming lessons for Lakengren kids at our pool on June 4-8. Watch for more information about how to sign up for these free lessons. The instructors for these morning sessions will be from the Eaton YMCA.
Bob Varney was President of the Lakengren Dragons for many years and initiated many programs, i.e., the swimming lessons, Veterans’ Dinner, Adopt-a-Road (he had a new map drawn up for a new updated ‘Adopt-a-Road’ which needs to be initiated), Lake shore Clean-up, and the Lakengren Texas Hold’em. It must be reported that not all things were rosy. There were also some flops which will not be discussed.
One of his and Loretta’s highlights was watching their 10 month old granddaughter take the swimming lessons. She always loved her bath and, in the pool, she did swim and go under the water with her mother close at hand. However, she was not the youngest. There was another baby who six months old.
Bob passed away August 13, 2011. Loretta was present at the last LPOA meeting and told me that she was so pleased that the Dragons have honored him by naming it the ‘Bob Varney Swimming Lessons.’
I just had an inspiration, maybe from Bob, about any Lakengren adults and youths who have a fear of water and would be interested in attending evening swimming lessons. Anyone who is interested can email me at phealy6@woh.rr.com.
DRAGON HOLD’EM
The Dragons Hold’ems will take a recess during the summer. The last session will be on Saturday, June 2nd at 7:00 in the Lodge. It will return in October.
