Lakengren Dragons- 2012- A Winning Season
By Robin Mirovsky
Who would have ever thought that a second year 10 and under (10 U) baseball team, the
Lakengren Dragons, would pull off a winning season after only winning four games last year?
The parents, the sponsors, the fans, the coaches, and especially the players themselves- that’s
who. The Lakengren Dragons ended the season with 15 wins, 14 losses, and 1 tie. According to
head coach Darren Weathington, “ Despite the fact that the boys only won 4 games last year,
they ended this year with a winning record. The boys constantly worked on their skills, and
even though they played a more competitive schedule than last year, they came together as a
team and showed what can happen when they play as a unit”. If ending the season with a
winning record wasn’t enough to show growth from last year’s team, then maybe the fact that
the Lakengren Dragons also placed second in a end of season tournament, showed a great
deal of growth.
In the tournament hosted by the Butler County Bulldogs in Hunter, Ohio, The Dragons won 3
out their first 3 games, giving them a chance to play for the championship game . Although the
Dragons did not win this important game, they did play hard and did receive trophies for their
second place finish. The winners of the tournament, the Butler County Bulldogs, complimented
the Dragons for their determination and hard work during the tournament, showing the boys
that a team doesn’t have to win first place to win respect from others.
Let’s congratulate these hard working young players: Tristan Apking, Anthony Monebrake,
